AWME & APRA present:
Watussi, Madre Monte, East Journey, Kamerunga, Lee ‘Sonnyboy’ Morgan.
Watussi’s live shows are a cacophony of blustering horns, party-fuelled rhythms and rocking roots bass-lines. Led by charismatic Columbian ex-pat, Oscar Jimenez, Watussi is a well-travelled troupe of Latino-tinged roots-rockers.
Madre Monte is an incendiary nine-piece Melbourne Latin-reggae outfit. The band produces a perfectly mastered unison of Afro-Colombian funk-infused cumbia and skanking reggae grooves.
East Journey hails from the community of Yirrkala and surrounding traditional clan homelands in North East Arnhem Land. The band’s musical inspiration and material is drawn from ceremonial song, poetry, and traditional melodies.
Kamerunga, from tropical northeast Queensland, has redefined and reinvigorated Australian folk, blending original composition with tradition and elements of world music, jazz, classical, rock and reggae to create a vivid new fusion.
Lee ‘Sonnyboy’ Morgan, from the Gunditjmara Kirrae Whurrong clan, south west of Victoria, is the man to watch. His solo career and vivacious guitar strung tunes embrace a new phase in soulful country-rock music.
